I have a confession to make: I’m afraid of joining a Bible study/Christian Life Group.
As we gear up to start this all-church book study in Christian Life Groups it’s important for all of us to confront those things that might hold us back for fully participating.
For me the biggest reason is that I’m afraid of looking stupid.
I don’t want to look stupid or foolish because I don’t know enough about the Bible. I’m afraid that people will think I’m ignorant when it comes to what is in the Bible.
I’m sure there are a lot of you who feel the same way. The Bible can be intimidating; at least it is for me. It’s full of contradictions, is difficult to understand, and the enormity of its contents can be daunting.
Which is all the more reason to get some help when studying it. In a Christian Life Group I will be able to spend more time in the Bible, learning how to read it with people who face the same struggles with it that I do.
Then on Sundays I will be able to come to church and hear the pastors preach on the themes of the book. And on the Wednesdays in Lent I will be able to see dramas that explore the themes of the book.
Small groups give us opportunities to gather and talk about the matters of the faith and grow. As we share our experiences and struggles, we will see the Bible come to life through each other’s lives.
So I’m going to host a Christian Life Group Book Study on “If You Want to Walk on Water, You’ve Got to Get Out of the Boat.”
And I want you to join me, even if you think you might look foolish. Even if you think you don’t have the time. Even if you think the Bible isn’t relevant to your life. Even if you can’t afford the book. (We’ll talk about those obstacles in later posts.)
If you are a young woman or would like to hang out with a bunch of young women, I would love to have you join my group. If you would like another group to join please e-mail Melodee Rossi or me and we will find a group for you to join.
