Heather Nelson joins us as new Choral Director

The following was originally sent out as an email announcement to the members and friends of Christ the King on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2015.

Dear Friends at Christ the King, ASP-HCB14-120

I am pleased to announce to you that Heather Nelson has accepted our call to serve as Christ the King’s new Choral Director.

A 2001 graduate of Luther College in Decorah, IA, Heather has been a church choir director for more than 15 years, first in Decorah, then South Saint Paul, and most recently at Shepherd of the Hills, Shoreview. She has taught both high school band and choir and continues to offer private vocal, keyboard, and instrumental lessons from her home-based studio. A skilled vocalist in her own right, Heather has sung with Luther’s Nordic Choir, VocalEssence, and Exultate and currently sings with Magnum Chorum and the “Pop-Up Choir,” for which she also serves as artistic director. In addition, she has served as vocal director for two local community theatre programs. She is a member of the American Choral Directors Association and has taken part in workshops, clinics, and choral residencies in Seattle, San Antonio, and Winchester, England.

Heather will officially begin in September, allowing for the Sanctuary Choir and other ensembles to maintain their typical schedule of rehearsals and worship leadership. Focusing primarily on directing the Sanctuary Choir, along with other vocal ensembles such as Christ’s Kingsmen and Glory Sound, Heather will build on a tradition of choral excellence within the worship life of CtK. Reporting to Nate Crary, our new Director of Worship and Music, Heather will work collaboratively with the Worship and Music Committee as well as pastoral and lay staff.

In her cover letter applying for this position, Heather said, “My love for the church and passion for quality music fuels my soul and guides my life. God provides people with many gifts and it is important to me that I help members find ways to share their talents and feel good about what they offer.” I look forward to Heather joining the CtK team, and complementing the gifts and talents of those with whom she will be working. I invite you to join me in giving thanks to God for bringing Heather to us, and in praying for a smooth and graceful beginning to this new chapter in the life of our music ministry.

Faithfully,

Pastor Peter Hanson
