Your Moment of Reformation: Five Important Reformers Other Than Martin Luther*

Many people make the mistake of believing Luther was the only person working for church reform in the 16th century. In fact, there were many other reformers. Read More

Your Moment of Reformation: Foundational Lutheran Theology Renewed

I am a Lutheran, through and through. I feel fortunate that I was raised in the Lutheran Church because I totally buy into our belief that we are "saved by grace through faith." As a 60+ year old woman, I am proud to believe Lutheran theology. In working with the Pastors in preparing the study book for our Commemoration at CtK, not only has my faith been reinforced, I have learned--again--that Luther's Reformation did not stop in the 1600's. Reforming the church never ends. But now I ask, what am I able to do with my life to encourage the ongoing reformation? Read More

Your Moment of Reformation: Semper Reformanda!

One of my favorites among these slogans was the cry “Semper Reformanda!” While its origins are a bit murky the idea is that we as individuals, as well as the whole church collectively, must always be actively reforming.  Read More

Your Moment of Reformation: God Works in Two Ways

I am so glad for Martin Luther's belief that God is at work in the world in two different ways. A recent issue of the Living Lutheran says God works  "in and through the created world for the welfare of all, and through the gospel to bring people to saving faith in Jesus Christ." Read More

Your Moment of Reformation: Seven Important Things Martin Luther Said, And What They Meant

1.    “When our Lord and Master, Jesus Christ, said ‘Repent’ he called for the entire life of believers to be one of repentance.” (Ninety-Five Theses, 1517) Luther meant that faith and its Christly acts of love and service are never to be separated from real life. Faith isn’t just a hobby, it’s an entire way of life! Read More

Your Moment of Reformation: Michael King Honors Martin Luther

It is no wonder when Michael King traveled to Germany and learned about Luther’s (95 theses) reformation, he felt not only a strong connection but reaffirming hope in a better tomorrow. In Martin Luther, Michael saw a Godly man whose love for God would not be compromised for social status. Inspired and honored by Martin Luther’s boldness, combativeness, and foremost faithfulness in God, Michael King change his name as well as his son’s name to Martin Luther King and Martin Luther King Jr. Read More

Your Moment of Reformation: Sola Gratia- What Gives?

I have a tattoo on my arm that says, “Sola Gratia”. Often times this has gotten me labeled a church nerd, Lutheran Groupie, or even crazy (by my grandmother).  While I can understand why some would think this was a poor decision in the long run as skin wrinkles and the words may not be legible, I continue to be content knowing that every time I look at my arm I am reminded of the gift that is God’s grace. Your Moment of Reformation: Lutherans and Education

Since the time of the Reformation, Lutherans have continued to create and support schools.  Here in Minnesota the first Lutheran elementary school, Trinity Lutheran School, was establish in St. Paul in 1861.  Lutheran colleges were also established along with other elementary and secondary schools.
