"Sing to the Lord a New Song." "Praise God from whom all blessings flow." On Sunday, June 3rd, we will be celebrating the gift of music as we feature our choirs, ensembles, and hand bells in spirit filled worship. Mark your calendars now and plan on worshipping with us Sunday, June 3.
What do John Newton, Fanny Crosby, Isaac Watts, Martin Luther, and Samuel Wesley have in common? They are all hymn writers who have contributed greatly to our long standing tradition of familiar and well loved hymns. Now, what do Paul Baloche, Amy Grant, Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman, and Michael W. Smith have in common? They are our Christian song writers of today writing music that is also becoming familiar and well loved by many Christians. Yes, the style is different and even instrumental accompaniment is different. But the intent is the same. These hymns/contemporary songs are all written to glorify God and help us celebrate God’s love for us.
So let’s sing! Lift your eyes to the heavens and sing with a joyful heart. Let others hear you and be led to join in your praise. Sing the old songs. Sing the new songs. If you don’t know them, give them a try. Most are not that difficult to learn. Don’t worry if you are not in tune. God loves a cheerful singer, no matter what key he/she sings in.
